The eagerly anticipated Alpine A110S has been revealed, featuring an uprated 1.8-litre engine and myriad chassis tweaks. The improved power to weight ratio means it is one-tenth of a second faster from 0-62mph (now 4.4 seconds) than the existing Alpine variants.

Alpine MD Sebastien Erphelin said: “From the very inception of the Alpine project it has been our intention to offer different versions of the A110 with handling and performance characteristics of their own.

Power jumps by 39bhp (now 288bhp) in the A110S, and comes in later in the rev range. Torque is unchanged at 320Nm, but is now available all the way from 2,000rpm to 6,400rpm – 400rpm higher than before. Top speed has been raised by 10kmh to 260kmh (162mph). As in the A110 Pure and A110 Legende, power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Alpine has also tweaked the suspension and stability control, as well as the wheel geometry for a more responsive driving experience. The A110S’s springs are 4mm lower and 50 per stiffer, and the dampers have been tuned specifically. The anti-roll bars are firmer, and there’s a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, too. Alpine chief engineer Jean-Pascal Dauce said: “The A110S has a very different character. Its bespoke chassis set-up makes it a very focused sports car. However, it is a comfortable and usable everyday car. The A110S wouldn’t be a true Alpine if it was very firm or too hard-riding to be driven day-to-day.”

Every version of the A110S gets a selection of styling tweaks to tell it apart from lesser models in the range. Of particular note are the orange and carbon fibre flag details on the C-pillar, the orange brake callipers, and the unique GT Race alloy wheels. The A110S is also available with a new Gris Tonnerre matt grey paint finish.

Inside, the theme continues with orange stitching for the seats. There’s special upholstery for the roof lining, sun visors and door panels, while the lightweight Sabelt suede-style seats are complemented by the similarly-trimmed steering wheel with orange 12 o’clock marker. Standard kit includes a Focal stereo and parking sensors, as well as Alpine’s telemetrics system.

Antony Villain, Alpine Design Director said: “The flag emblems neatly encapsulate the car’s personality: its commitment to lightweight construction on one hand, and its vibrant driving experience on the other.”

Optional upgrades for the A110S include a gloss carbon fibre roof, Fuchs forged alloy wheels and special seat belts with a carbon fibre finish. UK prices will be confirmed closer to the car’s on-sale date later this year. However, given the European figure of 66,500 Euros, we wouldn’t expect change from £60k.
